Robertson was founded in 1952 and has provided service to the Canadian marketplace for over 60 years.

Founded in 1952 as Robertson Electric Sales Limited, the company has proudly served the Greater Toronto Area for over 71 years. In 2008, Rick, Bruce, and Chris Campbell acquired the business and established Robertson Electric Wholesale 2008 Limited. Their vision was to build on a strong foundation—making the company more competitive, more customer-focused, and more valuable to both existing and new clients. On September 2, 2024, Sonepar acquired Robertson Electric Wholesale 2008 Limited from Rick Campbell. Prior to the acquisition, Robertson was Canada’s leading independent distributor of electrical, lighting, wire, and utility products—proudly Canadian-owned and operated.

Robertson has built a strong reputation serving customers across commercial construction, retail, hospitality, transit, institutional, and government sectors. Our product and service offerings support a wide range of needs, including new construction, infrastructure upgrades, building renovations, facility maintenance, repair and operations (MRO), and original equipment manufacturing (OEM). 

Today, Robertson operates 19 locations across Canada, with over 400 employees serving more than 5,000 customers. While our core business remains concentrated in Ontario, we have expanded into the Pacific, Prairies, and Maritimes regions. We distribute over 100,000 products sourced from approximately 1,300 manufacturers and suppliers. Our strategic branch network, combined with our speed-to-market capabilities and value-added services, ensures our customers stay on schedule and within budget.

Under Sonepar’s ownership, Robertson benefits from enhanced financial stability and the ability to scale into new markets across Canada. This partnership strengthens our competitive position and supports our long-term growth strategy.

Guided by the needs of our customers, we will always strive to be first to market on innovation and service. Robertson has seen remarkable growth in a very short period of time. In support of this growth, new branch locations have opened up in Ontario and Western Canada with several more branches in development nationwide.
Robertson’s customers are supported by a large, active sales force, knowledgeable counter staff, and a broad and extensive inventory with a daily delivery schedule resulting in an effective turnaround between manufacturers and customers.
